5 Ways to Stop Your Dog From Barking Excessively

Without a doubt one of the most annoying issues for owners is a dog that is a chronic barker. These dogs seem to bark at anything and everything and do not stop barking even when the threat or event is over. While chronic or excessive barking is often associated with small dogs all sizes and breeds of dogs may become chronic barkers under the right set of conditions.

What makes a dog bark?

Initially puppies and dogs bark to attract attention, notify owners of a stranger or unusual event, or to defend themselves and their property. Most owners appreciate a dog that barks to notify them when a stranger approaches or there is a knock at the door. The problems start to happen when the dog does not disengage from the barking activity, even if corrected. Some chronic barkers will not stop even if removed from the room and will continue to bark even if placed outside.

Usually dogs that have a problem with barking started this behavior because they were bored or received attention for barking. Remember that to a dog all attention is good, even if it is negative. Therefore when a dog is bored, lacks attention and then barks and gets yelled at, he or she quickly learns that barking gets human attention, which is just what he or she wants. Once this pattern has been established it is more difficult to correct than catching it early and stopping it as it develops.

Working With A Puppy or Dog

Puppies are often very cute when they bark and owners do little to correct the barking. Once they become a bit older the problem becomes more annoying, but by then the behavior is established. If you want to have a watchdog consider using the following method:

When the stranger comes to the house or yard and the puppy or dog barks, immediately praise the puppy. After one or two barks say “Enough” or “Stop” and then immediately give them a toy or chew item to distract them from barking. As soon as they take the toy praise them for stopping and provide attention for quiet behavior.

If the puppy or dog continues to bark and doesn’t take a toy consider giving them a food treat. Again praise as soon as the dog is quiet after you have given the verbal command.

Spend time playing with the puppy and provide attention when they are quiet.

Never yell at the puppy or hit the dog to make it stop barking. This will only raise the puppies anxiety level and lead to more barking or even more aggressive behaviors such as biting or running away.

A squirt bottle filled with tap water can also be used to stop the puppy from barking, although this should only be used if other methods fail. Again, the word “Enough” or “Stop” should be used prior to the water bottle, and the puppy should immediately be praised when he or she sits or stands quietly beside you.

For dogs or puppies that bark chronically when the owner is away consider providing more toys and activities for the dog. In addition take them for a long walk or play games with them to provide more stimulation before you leave them alone. Try to make the times away from home as short as possible and praise the dog when you get home and all is quiet.

Be as consistent as possible if you are trying to train or correct a barking dog. Always respond the same way to barking. Dogs become very confused if one day they are allowed to bark and other days they given negative attention for barking. Always pay attention to the dog when it is quiet or behaving appropriately and spend extra time exercising and playing with the dog or puppy to ensure that they will be tired and relaxed when you are away from home.

The Best Types of Parrots for Pets

Assuming that you have decided on getting a parrot as a pet, which type of parrots make the best pets?

I am often asked this question.

I like to turn it around and ask what sort of pet owner are you? Parrots can live as long as 70 years, some even longer. Are you willing to make what is literally a lifetime commitment?

Parrots are social birds and need company and attention. Are you willing to give up that time to keep your pet happy? Although they can need less attention than, say, a dog, you can’t lock up the house and leave a parrot on its own for more than a day or two.

There’s really no pat answer for choosing which type of parrot. It’s a bit like asking what sort of car you should drive or what sort of movie you should watch. It comes down to personal circumstances and preferences.

The easiest type to care for is of course the humble budgerigar. These can be tamed and trained much like a larger parrot and make great low-maintenance companions, especially for children, but they rarely talk.

At the other extreme is the African Grey, these are intelligent and will quickly pick up a large vocabulary. They also need a lot more care and will live much longer. These are popular parrots mostly because of their remarkable mimicry and intelligence. Although each individual can vary, it is common for them to have vocabularies of several hundred words.

Amazon parrots and Ringneck parrots also make good pets, living about 20 years or so. Their diet needs to be varied and include plenty of vegetables. Not quite as talkative as the African Grey, these parrots can still develop a wide vocabulary.

Blue and Gold Macaws, or most other Macaws are also worth considering. They have beautiful plumage and, usually, a laid-back personality.

Cockatiels are another good choice if your funds are limited. Although some will talk they are more reluctant to do so than some other species.

Take time to make the decision and talk to other parrot owners about their experiences. You may also want to find out if there is a local parrot rescue society close to you. they will give you good advice and you may also be able to adopt a parrot at much lower cost than buying a young bird.

Miami Schools Expands and Prepares for the 2006-2007 School Year

This school year Miami Schools is opening four new schools and several new facilities to cope with increased student enrollment for the 2006-2007 school year. The new schools will cater to elementary, middle and high school students.

Miami Schools has added the Ronald W. Reagan High School in the northwestern part of the district. This is an area that is expanding rapidly. The new high school will cover about 20 acres and house extremely modern facilities. The Ronald W. Reagan High School will have 250,000 square feet of classrooms, computer lab, an 800 seat auditorium, a 700 seat cafeteria, a Media Center and a gymnasium. Also on campus there will be a number of outdoor areas: fields for football, soccer, softball and baseball as well as basketball, tennis and racquetball courts.

The most innovative part of Miami Schools’ Ronald W. Reagan High School is that it is an academy based design. This means that ninth grade students will be tested and surveyed to discover their interests and areas of strengths and then be encouraged to select from three academies. The three academies on campus will be Cambridge Academy, Information and Communications Technology Academy, and the Classical Arts Academy. These academies will both have separate facilities and share common school facilities. This is part of Miami Schools continuing educational reform plan.

In the southern part of the district, Miami Schools will open the new Norma Butler Bossard Elementary School. The campus will cover 7.5 acres. The school will be equipped with a Media Center, music and art centers, a cafeteria that will accommodate nearly all the students, a three story classroom building, bilingual rooms, a well equipped science laboratory, and a Wellness Center. The Wellness Center will be available for staff and student use. This school is named for Norma Butler Bossard, who had served as the Miami Schools language arts division head for many years.

Another innovation for the Miami Schools is the newly constructed David Lawrence, Jr. K-8 Center. The K-8 Center will be a world class facility that is adjacent to Florida International University. Miami Schools will work in conjunction with Florida International University to provide professional development for Miami Schools’ teachers and Florida International University’s education majors. The K-8 Center will be able to house nearly 1,600 students. The state of the art facility will include a Media Center, computer labs, art labs, and music centers. The K-8 Center will be home to the Johnson and Wales University nutrition and cooking workshops. These workshops are part of “Healthy Eating/Healthy Choices,” a grant the school received from Health Foundation of South Florida. The cooking workshops will be open to staff and parents.

The last addition Miami Schools is the Young Women’s Preparatory Academy. This is the first all female school to be operated by Miami Schools. The Young Women’s Preparatory Academy will accommodate 450 girls in grades 6-12. The Young Women’s Preparatory Academy will have a thorough educational curriculum that will develop the academic, personal and social skills of the students. The school aims to prepare its students for postsecondary education and the world.

Empty Your Cup

I first heard this comment in an interview with Bruce Lee. Later, I learned more about this concept in Joe Hyams’ book, “Zen in the Martial Arts.” The quote comes from a story Bruce Lee was relating to Mr. Hyams where a master was trying to make a point to an arrogant visiting martial artist. This martial artist ostensibly came to learn from the master, but merely wanted to prate his own ideas. In the story, the master begins to fill the visitor’s cup with tea, but when it is full, the master continues to pour and the tea runs out. When the visitor points this out, the master replies, “until you empty your cup, you cannot get any more tea.” The basic concept is that if you are full of your own ideas, there is no room for new ones.

Bruce Lee was not only a master martial artist, he was also a master of learning from others. He was constantly emptying his cup and taking in new ideas. In his brief lifetime, he continued to learn from others causing him to change philosophies many times, and create martial arts systems based on these constantly renewing ideas.

As martial artists, we can continue to learn from Bruce Lee’s example. This doesn’t mean we all need to create new styles as Master Lee did, but we can all become familiar with other styles to fill gaps in our training. As martial artists we should try to learn everything we can from others. Too many martial artists would rather pretend they already know it all and wallow in their own ignorance than risk admitting there may be more to learn.

This prideful approach leads to a tendency to tear down or dismiss ideas or concepts we don’t understand instead of taking everything we can from it. This tendency comes from insecurity and defensiveness. Nobody likes to find out they may be wrong, but to continue to learn we must take this chance or risk stagnation. And when we find we were wrong about something, we should rejoice in its discovery because this is one more thing we are now close to getting right! The idea that any one person or system could be perfect and know everything is ludicrious. Every person out there knows something we don’t. Every system out there has something they do better than our system. Once again, this is a good thing. Think of the learning potential!

Next time you’re confronted with an idea that makes you angry or uncomfortable, don’t immediately dismiss it or attack it. Take a moment to evaluate whether it’s really a bad idea, or whether it merely challenges your own preconceptions. Even after you’ve honestly evaluated an idea and you still disagree, there is something to be gained. The exercise alone will help you solidify your own knowledge and concepts. Additionally, few well considered ideas are completely without merit, and careful evaluation may reveal a gem of knowledge hidden in a concept that may later have gone astray. Whatever value the idea possessed can now be assimilated into your own ideas, and the portions you have considered and rejected can now be comfortably dismissed without fear of missing something important. Even so, you should always be prepared to reevaluate a previously dismissed concept. It may later prove that there was nothing wrong with the concept, but you weren’t yet ready to accept it.

In the movie Broadcast News, Holly Hunter’s overbearing character was confronted by a coworker who asks her, “it must be wonderful always knowing you’re right”? To which she replied, “no, it’s terrible.” That would be terrible. Knowing, or at least thinking, there was nothing left to learn from anybody else. So why take a chance on artificially creating this nightmare, even if it’s in only one area of your life? “I thought I was wrong once, but it turns out I was mistaken.” Remember, empty your cup, or you can’t have any more tea!

Stop your Dog Barking When You’re Away

Obviously, most problems with barking dogs result from dogs that don’t have their owner around to quiet them down. In fact, the owner’s absence in many cases is what’s rousing the dog’s vocal chords.

Most of what you can do to get your dog’s barking under control is done directly by you when you catch your dog in the act. For instance, if you know that your dog is barking at, say people who walk their dogs past your house when you’re away, then it is possible to recreate this scenario with you present so you can correct the behavior. However, intermittent barking such as this may be tolerated, by you, the neighborhood, and indeed your local dog legislation, provided your dog is not menacing passers-by through a crumbling fence.

A lonely dog barking or whining can be both much more of a nuisance and much more difficult to address, but there are still some things you should be doing. Try to come home more often, or try to arrange for a friend to visit, ideally with their friendly and energetic dog. It may nip the problem right in the bud. Enough said.

If you know you’ve got a barking dog problem that has the potential to anger neighbors, a little public relations work can go a long way. If possible, ask your neighbors if there is a barking nuisance coming from your place and, if there is, tell them you’re working on it. Then work on it.

You might also try staging a false exit. Walk once around the house or whatever it takes so they think you’re gone. When your dog barks, correct the behavior with a “Quiet” command (though your sudden appearance will likely be enough).

You can use special bark collars, that either use sonic or electric power to correct your dog. Others squirt a substance such as citronella when they bark, a scent they despise. I don’t use them, and the ones I have seen in use were awkward and not 100 percent effective. But I stay away from them less because they train through discomfort (they do not harm your pet), and more because they displace the source of authority from you to some device they don’t understand. Furthermore, they don’t differentiate between acceptable - even necessary - barking on one hand, and noise pollution on the other.

There’s also a medieval-like procedure whereby the dog’s voice-box is removed to render them barkless, or at least takes the bite out of their bark. This is simply abhorrent.

A better option for desperate dog owners is arranging some form of doggy day care, whether it’s a professional service or a personal arrangement. Some dogs simply do not get enough stimulation during the day, and they will let the world know about it until they do.

Sterling Silver Money Clips

It’s always harder to shop for gifts for men than for women because although they have fewer accessories to choose from, they tend to be more picky than women especially when they have an “image” to maintain. If you’re looking for the perfect gift that your man won’t feel ashamed of using, stay away from risky clothes and jewelries and start visiting accessory boutiques to look for the best sterling silver money clip you can find.

Why Sterling Silver?

Sterling silver unlike other types of silver won’t get rusty even when it’s exposed to water and other elements. As such, your man won’t have to worry about getting his sterling silver money clip ruined when there’s a sudden downpour.

Sterling silver is also considered a classy material especially when compared to materials like leather. It is also more durable and it definitely won’t break or bend easily when pressure and force are exerted.

Money Clips vs. Wallets

Although there are more styles, colors, and designs to choose from when shopping for wallets, there are also more disadvantages to be found if you choose to purchase a wallet instead of a money clip for your man.

Firstly, wallets usually create a noticeable bulge in the pocket which effectively reduces the sexiness of the person. If you want your man to look good, he’ll be better off with a slim and compact sterling silver money clip.

Secondly, there’s no turning back time when your wallets become victims of wear and tear. Old leather will always be old leather. Immortality on the other hand is granted to sterling silver money clips. All you have to do is polish them regularly with the right cleaning tools and you’ll have a brand new looking money clip all the time!

Thirdly, money’s more accessible when using a money clip. All you have to do is pull off the exact kind and number of paper bills you need and payment is instantly made.

Fourthly, money clips are especially advantageous to men who love playing the field. Instead of having to changing photos in their wallets all the time to avoid hurting their current flavor of the month, no evidence can be garnered against them when they’re using money clips. It’s just money after all!

One major concern of yours should be that you are actually getting the right kind of metal, and that the money clip is indeed made of sterling silver, it is never too difficult to find someone who understands something about silver and get them to the shop with you. It is also advisable that you think about the person you are getting this for, ideally the money clip should be fitted to their habits and needs, if you will observe the person you will know what kind of money clip will suit him best.

Money clips are a perfect gift for men, Roy Ditelezieg writes about jewelry and men’s accessories, read great advice on shopping for Sterling Silver Money Clip at the money clip site http://moneyclips.advice-tips.com/

Making More Money From eBay - Try This Underground Tactic

eBay has been labeled as the goldmine for people who are looking to quit the 9-5 job and find success on the internet. Maybe this was the case a few years ago, but now the market is so crowded that many people are finding it difficult to run a successful business on eBay. What if I told you there was a totally legit method to get free products to sell and earn 50%-75% commission on the sale price?

Would you be interested in this completely legal way to making more money from eBay starting today?

The method I am talking about is affiliate marketing with eBay classified ads. For those of you who are new to affiliate marketing, it is basically where you sell products that other people have created and get a commission. The most popular form is to sell digital products such as ebooks.

First off you need to sign up for a Clickbank account. This is free, and you can find thousands of products to sell for free. I recommend products about golf, foreign languages, and dog training. Pick out 3-5 products and create an eBay classified ad for each product.

These classified ads cost $9.95, but you do not have to pay any fees on the final sales price. On average each ad that I place on eBay makes me around $60-$80 per month. This means that if you could scale this operation for making more money from eBay you could have 100 or more classified ads running each month! That would be an extra $6,000-$8,000 a month!

Choosing a Personal Fitness and Nutrition Trainer

A personal fitness and nutrition trainer can help you enter a race where there’s no engraved cup or money award at the finish line. Unlike the Thoroughbreds racing at the local park, you will be running for your very life instead. Fitness and nutrition are the keys to a quality long life.

Racing for Fitness

Almost 60% of people in the United States are overweight or obese. The consequences of having too much fat on your body can be severe. Obesity is a major cause of many serious illnesses including Type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure and even certain forms of cancer.

It’s hard to maintain a fitness routine on your own. On top of that you are bombarded with advertisements selling unhealthy food and gadgets and inventions that actually result in less physical activity. The perfect examples are kids playing electronic games for hours instead of baseball or soccer. There are bigger and better computers and TVs promoting lifestyles with little exercise time included.

Sedentary lifestyles are not good for the body, and neither is junk food. But everyone lives extremely busy lives and fitness and nutrition often take a low priority. A personal fitness and nutrition trainer can help you rearrange your priorities so you place your health top of the list.

When you are young, it’s easy to believe good health is forever. But as you age, the truth is slowly revealed. Metabolisms slow naturally. Fat accumulates after years of eating meals with little nutritional value.

Free radicals form unimpeded because the diet has consistently lack antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables. Other diseases eventually take root. For example, lack of exercise increases the chances of developing osteoporosis.

Finding Your Stride

A personal fitness and nutrition trainer can assist you in a number of ways beginning with an assessment of your current fitness level. A personal trainer will work with to establish mutual goals including measures of progress such as weight loss or inches loss.

Personal fitness and nutrition includes the following:

Evaluating current dietary habits and making necessary changes

Calculating the body mass index (BMI)

Establishing an exercise routine that fits your lifestyle

Develop a strength training program

Tracking progress and making necessary adjustments as you progress

Using a personal fitness and nutrition trainer can help you stay motivated as you begin the race for your life. The quality of your life in your senior years is directly related to the level of fitness you maintain in your younger years. It becomes clearer with each medical study that problems associated with aging are as much a consequence of poor nutrition as they are of the aging process itself.

Utilizing the services of a personal fitness and nutrition trainer only makes sense if you’re ready to get serious about your health. Racing for the grand prize of good health means finding your “fitness stride”.

You don’t have to work out 8 hours a day to stay fit and healthy. You do have to exercise regularly and watch what you eat. A personal fitness and nutrition trainer can be the key to your success.

How to Hypnotize Someone

So you want to learn how to hypnotize someone, well in order to do so you must understand that hypnosis is about communication between the hypnotist and the other someone. That you must understand the concept of Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP and above all to constantly practice and train yourself.

So hypnosis is about communication, not telling an unconscious person what to do. Here is an official definition of hypnosis:

Hypnosis is a mental state (state theory) or set of attitudes (nonstate theory) usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject (”hetero-hypnosis”), or may be self-administered (”self-hypnosis” or “autohypnosis”).

As you can see it is important to understand that when you want to hypnotize someone they must be conscious so that their mind can process information. Of course you must put their mind in a suggestive state hence the hypnotic induction. This is a way of figuratively “warming up the subjects mind” so that they are more likely to listen to your suggestion and influence. Hypnotic Induction can be as simple as telling the subject to close their eyes and take 5 - 10 deep breaths, slow down their breathing, to get as comfortable as possible or creating a scenario in their mind where they would feel the most suggestible. Once this is done you have will have increased your chance of hypnotizing them exponentially. You can probably relate to this usually when you are in a good mood you tend to be a lot more open to ideas of going for a run, or mowing the lawn opposed to when you are in a bad mood and usually any idea is a negative. This point leads on to the next one of Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP.

In order to properly learn how to hypnotize someone you must understand what NLP is and how it connects to hypnosis. Nuero linguistic programming in the simplest form of definition is the way our mind reacts to certain phrases. Let us look at the example of mowing the lawn. Usually when you are asked to mow the lawn the immediate reaction is I do not want to do that. The reason being that our mind associates this phrase with work, which is hard and something that we want to avoid. The point of hypnosis is to use our NLP’s in a way to make the subject react in the way that we desire. So when learning how to hypnotize someone it is important to understand the basic reactions to common phrases used. The most important thing to remember is that people tend to react once they are given positive information to process as opposed to immediately dismissing negative information. Use the advantage of someone being in a good mood and you will usually be able to convince them to do pretty much anything.

Learning how to hypnotize someone is about practice and training yourself in the correct techniques. It is absolutely imperative that you take a training course if you wish to learn hypnosis. Remember that anyone can learn hypnosis, it is not something that is only available for a select few, hypnosis is something that you can learn as long as you are willing to put in some time. If you want access to the best training course available visit http://howtohypnotize-polski.blogspot.com. If you are serious about results then do not waste any more time and take the step today.
